Do you like scary movies? There’s no reason you can’t make a horror movie of your own!

If you’d like to start simple, you can enter the 15 Second Horror Challenge!

WARNING: Don’t watch any of these movies without parental permission – some of them are really scary!

Such a short amount of time to get your story across presents challenges of it’s own, but it makes planning and story boarding easier.

Whether you decide to go the 15 second route or make a longer film, there are steps you’ll need to take.

First, you should brainstorm ideas. What do you find scary? What ideas do you have that might give other people a good scare?

Once you have a great idea, write a script! If you’d like to do this properly, you can follow these instructions from Studio Binder on script formatting.

Now, you might want to create a storyboard. A storyboard helps you plan out your shots. You can make your own storyboard, use an online program like Canva, or download our storyboard template below:

Once you’ve got your plans made, you should find actors and then plan for make-up, wardrobe, and props! Make sure to look at each scene and thing of what you will need for hair, make-up, wardrobe, props, location, and set design!

All of that planning can now be turned into a film! All of this information from Newbie Film School will help you get through the filmmaking process!
